3 weeks in Singapore

Ok technically I was back for 18 days.

- Sis's bday & I treated her (& my other sis) to Melt. The famous waffles are overhyped. Other then that, food is fabulous.

- Incident in the family. But I'm sure everything will work out eventually. Hope the affected family member will learn & mature from this.

- Spent WAY to much time with the fambly... then again I don't really have a lot of friends...

- Managed to meet Ah Bao. She flew back one day before I flew back!

- Had over-price Indian food at Dempsey.

- My new discovery: Prive. A little secluded great to hangout on a Sun morning. Serves a pretty mean brunch.

Service a bit shaky... then again I'm in Singapore, the land of lousy service.

- Managed to catch up with most of the Veri nice SGP folks. Some of them are coming to Taiwan for work. Yeah!

- Mom was in Taiwan for 2 mths & the house was filthy. Got a part-time maid to come clean. She came at 8am & cleaned all the way to 430pm!.... did I mention that mom was in Taiwan for 2 weeks & the house was filthy?
Anyway I am in love with the part-time maid. She even dismantled my fan to clean!

- durians, bah cho mee, chicken rice, roasted duck, nasi padang, tong shui, spize, winter melon soup... BURP. & I claimed to not miss spore food... hmmm....

- Bought new Asics & ran at 11pm.
- $6 dollar movie at Cathay. $7 movie at Lido. $10 dollar movie at Vivo. I miss cheap movies.

3 weeks ended too soon. Now back in UCL.

Looking forward to Snow Mountain - Taiwan's 2nd highest peak & in the
eyes of many, the most beautiful
.

My all time favourite WWII-theme movies

I love WWII war-themed movies, especially the ones made by Europeans. Just caught The Lives of Others for the 2nd time, hence the inspiration for this post.

In no order of preference:
1. Life is Beautiful
2. The Lives of Others
3. The Pianist
4. Enemy at the Gates
5. The Counterfeiters
6. A very Long Engagement (ok this is WWI...)
7. Goodbye Lenin

Here's one on Taitung

Taitung is blessed with some of the most beautiful coastal & mountainous scenery in Taiwan & is also the town nearest to Green Island. Spent a day there after our our Green Island trip.

Jinzun Beach - Best place to chill

Actually... cannot remember where this is haha

What does this look like to u?

Little Yeliu - Yeliu is an attraction near Taipei famous for the interesting rock formations.

One day is definitely not enough to see off of Taitung.
I will be back!

I love Green Island

This is why I am in love with Green Island...

Clear, pristine water of the Pacific ocean

Gorgeous volcanic landscape

Beautiful sunset

And sunrise...

Fantastic beaches

Me driving around the island...

With some very nervous passengers

Taiwanese generally avoid the sun like plague so during the day we had the beach all to ourselves!

Trying to do a Sports Illustrated...

View from Green Island towards Taitung - Look carefully & you can see outlines of the Central Mountain Range

Again I love Green Island!!

Back from Vacation!

Back in UCL after a 10 day break. Not looking forward to going back to work. Somehow, being with my family last week made me home sick. I guess it's just post holiday blues... And I'll be back in Spore next week!!!

After a shaky start (VERY close shave with train tickets), the family vacation went pretty smoothly. Hotel reservations didn't screw up. Ticket issue worked out (we got really lucky). Weather was great (hot!). Hotel shuttles picked us up at the right places at (almost) the right time.

Green Island is BEAUTIFUL! Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! I even drove! we will not go into my driving skills here...

Taitung reminded me of Sabah. Laid back. Relaxed. Everyone happy & friendly. The most common phase is " 台東人是最幸福的!Taitung-ers are most fortunate!"

Taipei is well, Taipei. Eat, shop, eat, shop. We took Dad to to a pub (live music at EZFive! Music not so great that nite. performers were entertaining as hell) & that was quite fun.

Of course this is after all a family vacation & so the parents are obliged to annoyed the hell out of their children. Nevertheless, we had a great time. It's been a long time since we spent time together as a family. I'm glad we did this.

Photos will come later!

Oh will also update my little side trip to Jade Mountain that took place right b4 my folks arrived in Taiwan.
